» “App.net isn’t just a country club”

Dan Wineman:

Ideally App.net would adopt a federated architecture, so I can run my own node if I have the interest and resources. But I don’t want it ever to be free, because as we’ve seen with Twitter, free pipes tend to make the pipe owners get possessive about the stuff that’s in the pipes.

You mean like this kind of possessive?

This is probably a good time to point out that I was just kidding when I called App.net a country club. That was multi-layered satire, people. Look it up. I’m happy to see alternatives like App.net and Tent popping up. It’s a shame Twitter is doing what it’s doing, but since it is, this is the way the system is supposed to work.

Also, I’d like to point out that I don’t even like golf.

Just for the record.
