I saw a reference to this earlier but the Verge confirms that all the new Kindle Fire models “will display Amazon’s ‘Special Offers’ promotions and advertisements on their lock screens”.
Wait, that wasn’t emphatic enough.
Really, one of my big complaints with the Nexus 7 setup experience was having to remove all the crap Google puts on the main screen to try to get you to buy more crap through them. I’m not sure if that lousy user experience will come across when people are buying the device — that low price point is too damn appealing for many people — but it sure won’t be good for customer satisfaction.
Update: Turns out you can opt out. Still not as good as not having them, but better.
Another update: Or not. DEVELOPING.
